Our prestigious Vineyards
Olivier FLEURY is the descendant of a family of winegrowers already present in Sainte-Croix du Mont and Verdelais, in the heart of the Bordeaux vineyards, before the French revolution of 1789... which means that quite naturally, when the opportunity presented itself, he decided to do everything possible to acquire the splendid Château du Pavillon and its allied vintage, Château Les Roques.
The Château du Pavillon was built around 1760 to the plans of the famous Bordeaux architects Laclotte, which earned it its place in the inventory of Historic Monuments and Sites of the Gironde. Outbuildings have preserved the thick walls and buttresses of the fortified farm which already stood there in the Middle Ages.
He commands a superb vineyard, on the hillside, overlooking the Garonne valley, facing the greatest Sauternes wines such as Yquem, Suduiraut and Lafaurie-Peyraguey.
Its unique terroir is made up of an exceptional scree of fossil oyster residue, which largely forms the structure of the cliff on which it is backed, because, millions of years ago, this site constituted the limit of the area submerged by the sea of the Aquitaine basin. It is a natural curiosity, geologically speaking, and you can even visit caves made entirely of fossil oysters in the village of Sainte-Croix du Mont.
From a location point of view, the south/southwest exposure gives it maximum sunshine, and the altitude brings, apart from natural drainage by runoff, exposure to the wind favorable to the dissipation of the morning mists of the Ciron which flows into the Garonne just opposite Barsac... in short, we couldn't do better to produce Great Liquoreux!
Château du Pavillon in Sainte-Croix du Mont is planted with noble Sauternais grape varieties, Sauvignon, Muscadelle and Sémilion which is the majority. The average age of the vines is 40 years.
The red vineyard includes 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon...
Château Les Roques is a very small property of 4.5 hectares. Vinification is carried out at the Château du Pavillon in Loupiac, renowned throughout the world for its multi-awarded Cuvée Frantz, the oldest dating from the Universal Exhibition of 1900... Out of Competition, Medal of Honor and member of the Jury!
These properties were added in 2017 and 2018:
- The Domaine de Giron, a small holding of 3.7 hectares in the town of Loupiac, shared between the white vines which produce sweet AOC Loupiac and Merlots produced from red Bordeaux,
- Le Clos des Servitudes, a tiny plot of 1.1 hectares located just below the church and the tourist site of the Fossil Oyster Caves of Sainte-Croix-du-Mont. This unique enclosure is dedicated to the AOC Cadillac - Cotes de Bordeaux,
- Château Fleury, property in AOC Barsac-Sauternes, which will produce its nectar on 2 hectares of old vines adjoining a Cru Classé from the 2018 vintage.
